New Playground Dedicated To Fallen Marine
Over one hundred people attended a dedication ceremony to honor local fallen Marine LCpl. Matthew Rodriguez Saturday afternoon. The new playground at New Bedford Regional Airport has now officially been named after LCpl. Rodriguez after the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Dozens of Marines were in attendence to show their respects, including two Marines that served alongside LCpl. Rodriguez before he was killed.
His platoon camander 1st Lt. Bradford Holden says the playground will bring people joy just as the late Marine always did.
Mayor Jon Mitchell spoke about the importance of the playground for preserving LCpl. Rodriguez's memory and his uplifting spirit.
His mother Lisa Rodriguez helped build the playground before his death and says he would be grateful for this kind of honor.
She also went on to say that even though the playground is small, it's still the best. Just like the Marine Corps.
