NEW BEDFORD - Big changes are coming to the Greasy Luck Brewery in downtown New Bedford.

Christian Farland, one of the founding partners when Greasy Luck opened in 2016, sold his portion of the ownership of the business last week to Howie Mallowes, owner of other downtown hotspots Cultivator Shoals and Rose Alley Ale House.

In a brief statement to WBSM News, Farland explained the reason for his departure from Greasy Luck: "...my main business and source of income Farland Corporation, Inc. is on an aggressive growth period and needs my 100% attention. My goal with Greasy Luck Brewery was to bring New Bedford a world class venue in which I believe I did. It deserves an owner that can give it a 100% effort and I believe the partner taking my shares Howie Mallowes can do so."

Mallowes tells WBSM News the first noticeable change to the business is the name.

"We're keeping the Greasy Luck name. We brew our own beer, but it's more of a pub atmosphere. So we felt the name of Greasy Luck BrewPub would more fitting than Greasy Luck Brewery," said Mallowes. "BrewPub kind of signifies that we're more of an eatery, which we are."

Greasy Luck is welcoming two new chefs, as well, who are currently revamping the menu to heavily feature Portuguese bistro-style food, while still keeping some of the existing favorites.

"They're working together to put together some very interesting dishes. Some of the stuff tastes incredible. Some of the tastings I've had in the past week, some of the ideas they've come up with, are amazing. I think it's going to be something that people really enjoy," said Mallowes.

Minor updates to Greasy Luck's event hall are also underway. Mallowes says more national touring entertainment acts will be brought in for ticketed events.
