The New Bedford Police Department is in the midst of its "Drive Smart Southcoast" campaign. The program is aimed at 16-18 year-olds and seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. New Bedford, and other local departments will be on the lookout over the next few weeks for teens using their cellphones while driving. But instead of handing out a ticket, police will encourage teens to attend Youth Court, and enroll in a four-week distracted driving course. Traffic Safety Officer J.R. Rebeiro will join Townsquare Sunday host Jim Phillips to discuss the distracted driving problem among teens, and how the Drive Smart program can make a difference.
