A commencement celebration in New Bedford saluting participants in the Sea Lab summer program, the city's marine science center in the South End.

The center honored its ninth grade participants who have been attending Sea Lab for several years.  One of them is Abby Jupin, who is entering the tenth grade at New Bedford High.

"When I was younger I wanted to be a marine biologist, but now its become the general science field," said Jupin.  She added, "I learned so much about the world around me at Sea Lab, and its become a very important part of me."

Some 250 students attend Sea Lab during the summer-time.  During the regular school year, the center introduces fourth and fifth graders to marine and life science programs.

Among the program's partners are the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Mystic Aquarium, and the Coast Guard Auxilliary, Flotilla 6-18.
