New Bedford’s Expenditures Made Available Online with New Feature

If you have ever wanted to see what each city department is spending money on in New Bedford, now you can.

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell has unveiled "Open Checkbook," a new feature on the municipal website that allows users to sift through quarterly expenditures in a number of different categories.

Mitchell says as the City makes tough decisions about budgetary items, there needs to be a consensus about those decisions, and that includes the residents. "And a consensus only comes with an understanding and confidence that city government is doing exactly what taxpayers believe it should. And that is spending city money as we would our own money," said Mitchell.
