New Bedford Work Out World to Move to Former Cinema Location
NEW BEDFORD - The Work Out World located on Kings Highway has announced it plans to move into the former Flagship Cinemas building. The workout center currently sits across the parking lot formerly used by the Salter School, Ocean’s 18, Flagship, and Body Works Gym and Spa.
In a Facebook post, Work Out World also says that the former cinema at King's Crossing will be remodeled to provide a “modern new space” for club members. A tour of the new facility will be provided before the grand opening of the new location.
WOW Management at the Kings Highway location declined to comment, and calls to the gym's corporate office have not been returned.
It's unknown at this time what would become of Work Out World's current location behind Savers if the move were to take place.
Though unofficial, plans for a Walmart or another large department store to take up residence within the locations left vacant by other businesses near the new WOW location may be in the works. Speaking with WBSM News in May following the evictions of Oceans 18 and Body Works Gym and Spa, Mayor Jon Mitchell addressed those rumors.
"I don't know what's happening there, except there have been rumors about a big box development there for some years, which stands to reason," Mitchell said. "So Walmart has come up from time to time, but I don't know how much credence to put into that."
However, a city official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed to WBSM News a Walmart will take up residence at that site at some point in the future.
