New Bedford Woman Rescued From Acushnet Pond
Some heroic efforts by 4 men in Acushnet Tuesday afternoon saved the life of an unidentified New Bedford woman.
Acushnet Police Chief Micahel Alves says a police officer and a 29-year-old laborer rescued the woman after her car plunged into a pond in at least 6 feet of water off Lake Street in Acushnet. Alves adds that the civilian was identified as Ryan Moore and the officer as Derek Cathcart.
The 53-year-old woman was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other civilians, Robert Smith of New Bedford and Brian Pepin of Acushnet, also jumped into the water and helped Moore and Cathcart bring the woman to shore.
The accident remains under investigation.
