New Bedford Woman Killed in Dartmouth Pedestrian Crash
A New Bedford woman is dead after being struck by a car on Rt. 6 in Dartmouth on New Year's Eve.
On Thursday, December 31, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Dartmouth police and other emergency personnel responded to the area of 597 State Road after receiving several calls that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
Officers confirmed that a female pedestrian, identified as 56-year-old Wendy Tolley of New Bedford, had been struck by a 2006 Toyota Prius being operated by a 24-year-old Dartmouth woman, the Dartmouth Police Department said in a media release.
Emergency care was rendered to Tolley, but she died as a result of her injuries, the department said. A part of State Road was closed for several hours while officers investigated the crash.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit of Bristol County, by the Dartmouth Police Department Investigative Services Division, and by the Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit.
No arrest was made, and no further information and or details regarding the crash would be immediately available, said Dartmouth Police Det. Kyle Costa.
