NEW BEDFORD — The woman killed in a fiery crash on I-495 in Middleboro on Friday has been publicly identified.

Massachusetts State Police say Jennifer Ryan, 32, of New Bedford, was killed in the single-vehicle crash on I-495 in Middleboro on Friday afternoon.

Police say Ryan lost control of her 2004 Ford Explorer at around 3:40 p.m. while traveling in the northbound lanes of I-495, just south of Exit 3. The vehicle traveled off of the road and into the median, striking a tree before bursting into flames.

Firefighters from the Middleboro Fire Department extinguished the flames.

Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
