New Bedford Woman Honored On Beacon Hill

A New Bedford woman is honored on Beacon Hill this week.

Guiomar Silveira was presented with the Heritage Day of Portugal Award Tuesday at a State House ceremony.

State Representative Antonio Cabral, House Chairman of the Portuguese American Legislative Caucus, planned and organized the ceremony.

Silveira was born in the Azores, immigrating to the U.S. in 1969. She juggled a job in a factory, while learning English, and caring for her family before pursuing a career in sales. Silveira found her calling in real estate in 1989, and founded her own company, Gold Star Realty Inc. in 1996.

Representative Cabral's office says Silveira has used her dedication to help many Portuguese families and others to achieve the American dream of homeownership.
