New Bedford Woman Charged With Unemployment Fraud
A New Bedford woman has been indicted by a Suffolk County Grand Jury on charges of illegally collecting unemployment benefits.
Mass. Attorney General Maura Healey says the charges brought against 44-year-old Marcelle Prou were the result of investigations by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development's Department of Unemployment Assistance.
Investigators allege that Prou worked and underreporting her wages for 113 weeks between 2014 and 2017. Authorities say during that time she collected over $60,000 in unemployment benefits.
Prou is being charged with eight counts of unemployment fraud, and four counts of larceny over $250. She'll be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court at a later date.
