NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford woman is facing charges after police say she was driving at a high rate of speed with her children and packages of drugs in her vehicle.

New Bedford Police received reports after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday of a vehicle speeding with tires screeching in the area of Rivet and County Streets. Police stopped the car in the area of County and Fair Streets.

The driver, Lissette Flores-Rivera, 30, of 101 Austin Street, Apt. 3, New Bedford, did not have a license and was not wearing a seat belt. Two children in the car, ages 11 and 5, were not in safety seats or wearing seat belts.

Police found four packages of crack cocaine in the vehicle.

Flores-Rivera was arrested at 5:47 p.m. on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute, reckless endangerment of a child under 18, failure to wear a seat belt and operating a motor vehicle with unnecessary noise.
