NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford woman is arrested after she allegedly crashed her car while under the influence of both alcohol and drugs, and then assaulted police officers that responded to the scene.

New Bedford Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident in the area of 40 Herman Melville Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m. Friday morning. Upon arrival, the driver of the vehicle involved was combative, and kicked two officers who responded to the scene.

Further investigation determined the woman under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Six Klonopin tablets were located in the vehicle.

Police arrested 32-year-old Amanda Marie Schwartz of 93 Emma Street, New Bedford, on charges of OUI liquor, OUI drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possession of Klonopin and two counts of assault on a police officer.
