Effective this weekend, the City of New Bedford will begin fully enforcing any and all trash regulations in regards to the new collection system.

Mayor Jon Mitchell had extended the so-called "grace period", where residents found to be out of compliance were only given warnings, through the end of October.

Mitchell tells WBSM News the rules have to be enforced sometime, and they will be as of November 1.

Residents are urged to put trash and recyclables in their respective carts without overfilling them.

First-time violators will be given a warning before a graduating fine schedule is implemented against repeat offenders.
