A New Bedford Police Department patrol officer seized 32 grams of heroin and drug paraphernalia after stopping a vehicle in the area of 13 Rivet Street on Dec. 22.

Ernesto Montalvo, 37, of 88 E. Water Street, was pulled over for motor vehicle violations, and also had an active warrant for his arrest, a press release from the NBPD states. The narcotics were discovered while he was being taken into custody, police said.

Montalvo was charged with trafficking in a Class A substance and motor vehicle violations. Officer Nathaniel Almeida was the arresting officer.

No further information was provided.
