Ring out the old, ring in the new. Tuesday marks the final day of 2019, and on Wednesday a new decade will dawn.

New Bedford plans to celebrate with an early evening of family-friendly events capped by an 8:30 p.m. fireworks display on the waterfront near State Pier.

From 5-8 p.m., events suitable for children of all ages will be found at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, the YMCA, and at the New Bedford Public Library.

For those who like music, a DJ will be spinning dance hits at Wings Court from 5-8 p.m., and the band D.D. Bastos & the sons of Providence will play tunes at the New Bedford Harbor Hotel from 6-8 p.m.

At Custom House Square, alt-circus performers Overhead Arts and Cirque de Light plan to bring their stilt-walkers and improvisational fire-spinners.

The event is organized by Destination New Bedford, presented by Mayor Jon Mitchell, and sponsored by Bristol County Savings Bank. A full roster of the evening's events can be found on the Destination New Bedford website.
