New Bedford Teen Pushes 86-Year-Old Man During Robbery Attempt
NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford man is arrested after allegedly trying to steal items and assaulting two people who tried to stop him.
Police responded to the 7-Eleven convenience store at 45 Coggeshall Street around 10 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a man trying to steal items.
The owner of the store tried to stop the suspect, who struck the man with his hands.
The suspect then allegedly shoved an 86-year-old man who also tried to intervene, causing him to fall.
The owner of the store was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived.
Police arrested the man, 19-year-old CJ Alves of North Front Street. He faces charges of assault and battery on a person over 60, unarmed robbery, and assault and battery.
No one was injured during the incident.
