NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford's Jireh Swift Elementary School has been closed for the day on Tuesday, Nov. 22 due to a boiler problem, officials announced early Tuesday morning.

In a Facebook post published just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, the school district announced that Swift Elementary will be closed for the day because of the boiler.

The problem with the boiler was not specified, and no further details were released.

Jireh Swift Elementary School is located at Lund's Corner at the intersection of Acushnet Avenue and Tarkiln Hill Road in the North End.

New Bedford Public Schools district spokesperson Arthur Motta was not immediately able to give details, but said that more information will be released about the boiler issue later today.

The National Weather Service forecasts chilly temperatures for today, with expected highs up to around 48 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's slightly warmer than yesterday, which weather service records indicate reached a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 24 degrees.
