The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center may be closed for renovations, but the performing arts in New Bedford continue to thrive.

Your Theatre, Inc. and the Steeple Playhouse have announced the upcoming schedule for 2024-25, serving as a showcase for local and regional talent and productions.

Your Theatre's Community Liaison Eric Paradis stopped by Townsquare Sunday to give us a preview.

Your Theatre has been a part of New Bedford's performing arts landscape for 78 years. It now has a permanent home in the newly-renovated Steeple Playhouse on William Street.

"Simply put, Your Theatre owns Steeple Playhouse," Paradis said.

Both organizations are contributing to the new season.

Beginning September 13, Your Theatre presents Ken Ludwig's The Game's Afoot.

"It's a funny, exciting, thrilling kind of a whodunit," Paradis said. "It's a great script, it's going to be a lot of fun."

The performances run for two weekends, September 13-22.

On October 18, Steeple Playhouse presents Neil McGarry in a solo performance entitled Burbage, or the Man Who Made Shakespeare Famous. McGarry returns to the Steeple following his acclaimed performance of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol last December.

Also in October, Paradis is working on returning a New Bedford JazzFest event to the Steeple Playhouse. He's been heading the organization since 2012. For more info, check out the New Bedford JazzFest website.

Your Theatre returns in November with The Hiding Place, a quirky romantic comedy. Performances are scheduled over two weekends beginning November 8-17.

Paradis said Your Theatre is always looking for volunteers.

"Volunteers are vital to community theatre, and we're always looking for new people. You don't need experience. You can be an usher, work backstage, or program lighting or paint and build sets," he said. "You don't have to be a theater person, you can just be a person who cares who wants to meet some new people and have some fun."

There are many more shows and special productions scheduled well into 2025. For ticket and schedule information, check out SteeplePlayhouse.org.
