NEW BEDFORD — Two New Bedford men have been arrested and an illegal gun seized after a shots fired incident on Tuesday night.

New Bedford police said officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation near Hawthorn and Irving streets to find spent shell casings on the ground.

A tree and a street sign in the area also appeared to have been damaged by a vehicle, according to police.

While investigating the incident, police say they found a vehicle with front-end damage in the vicinity. Officers stopped it at Bedford and Cottage streets.

Following a search of the two men inside, police said 29-year-old Preston Pedrosa was found to have a 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine, and 31-year-old Christian Reyes was allegedly found to have a knife.

Both suspects were arrested.

Pedrosa is charged with multiple firearms offenses including possessing a firearm without a license as well as unlawful carrying of a knife.

Police said he also had an active warrant for his arrest.

Reyes is charged with unlawfully carrying a knife and leaving the scene of property damage.
