NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police and school officials investigated a report Thursday of a student making threats against a city school.

According to a scanner report at about 6:01 p.m. Thursday, a student had reported that, while on the school bus Thursday afternoon, another student had threatened to "shoot up the school."

It is unclear at this time which school was specifically threatened.

Arthur Motta, spokesman for New Bedford Public Schools, said police and the administration immediately looked into the matter.

"The threat was determined to have no substance, but still, serious action will be taken by the district because any such words, however casually or flipplantly expressed, will not be dismissed or ignored," he said in a statement to WBSM News.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
