NEW BEDFORD - If you don't have a date tonight but are invested in the future of your local police department, there's something for you to do.

A community meeting to discuss the future of the New Bedford Police Department is being held at the Fort Taber Community Center in the South End.

The meeting, hosted by Public Safety Strategies Group, an independent review firm, will ask residents to provide their input on the policies and practices of the New Bedford Police Department.

Police officers and those affiliated with the police department will not be present at the meeting, allowing residents to speak freely.

The meeting is part of an ongoing review of the entire police department. It begins at 7 p.m. at the Fort Taber Community Center.
