This morning, about 100 officers from New Bedford, Acushnet, Fairhaven and Halifax, and two busloads of kids that arrived via a police escort, teamed up to shop at Target in North Dartmouth as part of their annual Presents With Police event.
The officers helped the kids purchase gifts for their siblings and themselves. Many of the children are in foster homes.

The officers each donated their own money, which was matched by the police union. Target, Dunkin Donuts and Pepsi also pitched in to help support the local children who don't have the means to give or receive Christmas presents without the program. Now, their families will have presents to open on Christmas morning.

After the shopping, the buses returned to Keith Middle School, where the police officers helped the children wrap their presents. Pizza was brought in from Buster's Sports Bar and Grill.

This has become a new SouthCoast tradition that is one of the sweetest holiday sights we've seen.
