New Bedford Police took 21 grams of Fentanyl and a loaded .25 caliber firearm off the street Wednesday after a traffic stop in the area of 60 Nauset St. This is the fifth illegal handgun taken off the streets in the last two days.

Jonathan Hernandez, 22, of 77 Cedar St., New Bedford, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, trafficking in Fentanyl, unlawful possession of ammunition and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Police stopped the vehicle after receiving information that Hernandez was dealing heroin while operating this vehicle. A plastic bag of Fentanyl weighing 21.4 grams and $240 in cash were found on Hernandez. In the trunk of the vehicle, police also located a .25 caliber firearm with one round in the chamber and five additional rounds in the magazine.

The arrest was made at 11:19 p.m.
