New Bedford Police are investigating after two convenience stores were robbed at knifepoint on Saturday.

Det. Capt. Steven Vicente says the first robbery took place at JC Variety on the 300 block of Cedar St. at around 3:30 p.m. when the suspect entered the store and demanded money and cigarettes.

The suspect was described as a thin white male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a white t-shirt and dark sweat pants.

The second robbery took place at the Xtra Mart in the 100 block of Durfee St. around 8:45 p.m. when the suspect entered the store with a knife and demanded money from the register, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In this instance the suspect was described as a tall thin white male with short black hair and a shirt covering his face.

Vicente says information about the two incidents was submitted to the media together because of the fact that there are similarities in both crimes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. William Sauve at 508-991-6300 ext. 79514 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
