NEW BEDFORD — Police are actively investigating a shooting that resulted in the injuries of two young men, supposedly teenagers, in the 160-block of Chancery Street.

Multiple witness accounts have indicated that two young men were apparently shot Monday night just outside the Temple Landing apartment complex in the area of Middle Street and Chancery Street.

New Bedford Police tell WBSM News that one of the victims suffered a gunshot wound to the leg while the other "sustained injuries in the shooting." Police also say the victims were alert and conscious

Friends and relatives were seen by WBSM News, gathering outside of St. Luke’s Hospital as the two victims awaited transport to Rhode Island hospital. Trauma response personnel from the City were also spotted on scene consoling individuals in the group.

Ward Four City Councilor Dana Rebeiro, whose Ward the alleged shooting occurred in, was also on scene addressing the victim’s families and friends outside the hospital.

“I just hope this neighborhood heals well and our community moves forward,” said Rebeiro.

New Bedford Police continue to investigate.
