New Bedford Police Bring Back Popular Free Ice Cream Socials for Summer 2026
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Temperatures in New Bedford are expected to soar into the 80s by this coming weekend, and there's no better way to cool down than with a free ice cream. New Bedford Police are bringing back their annual Ice Cream Socials starting this Saturday.
For the past few years, the department has held Ice Cream Social events at parks and neighborhoods across the city. Each child gets one free ice cream treat, courtesy of the NBPD.
In the past, New Bedford Police have passed out over 500 ice cream treats at some of these events.

How the NBPD Ice Cream Socials Help the Community
However, it’s about more than just a free ice cream. As the department noted in a Facebook post, it’s a chance for police to “meet residents, connect with families, and kick off the summer season.”
