NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police narcotics detectives made a pair of arrests Thursday.

First, at approximately 12:49 p.m., detectives observed a woman in the area of 90 Deane Street known to have active warrants. The woman, 52-year-old Amy Bassett of New Bedford, was placed under arrest and a subsequent search yieled 20 pills without a prescription. In addition to the warrant arrest, Bassett was also charged with possession of a Class E substance.

Then, at about 2:57 p.m., narcotics detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop after the operator was observed conducting activities consistent with street-level narcotics sales. A search yielded a small amount of cocaine, and 23-year-old Calvin Cepeda-Smith of New Bedford was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine as well as possession of a Class B substance, subsequent offense.
