The New Bedford Police Narcotics Unit made three arrests Tuesday as part of an investigation into street-level narcotics sales and other criminal activity in the downtown area.

Francisco Melendez, 39, of 60 S. Second St. Apt. 6G, New Bedford, was charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, subsequent offense. He was convicted of the same offense March 9, 2016. Melendez was found with 15 bags of crack cocaine packaged for street-level sales and $301 in currency in his possession. He was arrested at 8:16 p.m. a short distance away after a drug transaction was observed at Elm Street and Mechanics Lane.

Police also arrested Grace Angel Belrose, 35, of 188 Myrtle St., New Bedford, Apt. 2, New Bedford, on charges of sexual conduct for a fee after she was observed offering sexual activity in exchange for cash on Purchase Street. She was arrested at 7:02 p.m.

Michael Angel Mendoza, 23, of 504 S. Second St., New Bedford, was also arrested on three warrant offenses unrelated to the other two arrests. He was arrested at 7:19 p.m.
