New Bedford Police Arrest Three for Fentanyl Distribution
NEW BEDFORD — Members of the New Bedford Police Department narcotics division made three arrests, including one for trafficking, and took more than 11 grams of Fentanyl off the street Monday following an investigation into a Fentanyl distribution service being operated out of 74 Myrtle Street, Apartment 1.
Narcotics detectives located the target of the investigation, Nicholas Azeredo, in a vehicle, along with Russell Pinto. A subsequent search of the vehicle and the residence yielded more than 11 grams of Fentanyl, 85 pills, digital scales, packaging materials and cash.
When police attempted to arrest Azeredo, he resisted their efforts. When police searched the residence, they found a third suspect in possession of Fentanyl.
Police made the following arrests:
Nicholas Azeredo, 34, of 74 Myrtle Street, Apartment 1, New Bedford, was charged with possession of Fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of class A substance with intent to distribute, subsequent offense, possession of cocaine, possession of class C substance (pills) with intent to distribute, possession of class E substance (pills) with intent to distribute, possession of class E substance and resisting arrest.
Russell Pinto, 39, of 40 Russell Street, Apartment 1, New Bedford, was charged with possession of class A substance with intent to distribute, subsequent offense, and trafficking in more than 10 grams of Fentanyl.
Kayla Medeiros, 24, of 25 Sunset Ave. Apartment 2, Westport, was charged with possession of Fentanyl.
The arrests were made about 6:30 p.m. Monday.
