NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police arrest a city man after conducting surveillance in a West End neighborhood.

Police say members of the New Bedford Police Department Narcotics Unit were conducting surveillance Tuesday night in the 90-block of Willow Street after receiving numerous complaints of drug activity in the area.

During the surveillance operation, police observed suspicious activity in a motor vehicle that was parked in the area.

After further investigation, police located Matthew Pinheiro, 23, of 94 Willow Street, Apt. 1, New Bedford, and found him in possession of more than 45 grams of marijuana.

Pinheiro was arrested at 11:17 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, distribution of marijuana, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
