NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police detectives seized over $45,000 worth of cocaine and arrested two Rhode Island residents after the suspects fled both in a vehicle and on foot last week.

On November 18, police say narcotics detectives seized approximately 450 grams of cocaine and $4,745 in cash after a brief vehicle chase and foot chase in the area of Padanaram Avenue and Cove Road. Police say the street value of the narcotics is estimated to be over $45,000.

According to police, an unmarked cruiser was struck during the incident before a male suspect exited the vehicle and fled the scene, as the female driver continued to lead police on a vehicle chase. After a brief foot chase, detectives located the male in a nearby shed.

Crystal Peloquin 38, from North Providence and Orlando Valentin, 39, of Westerly were both arrested. Peloquin was charged with drug trafficking, failure to stop, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Valentin was charged with drug trafficking and police say he is on probation in Rhode Island already for a narcotics-related case.

Detective Lavar Gilbert led the investigation.
