New Bedford Police Arrest Man with Stolen Firearm

NEW BEDFORD — Members of the New Bedford Police Gang Unit arrested a man after a brief foot chase led to a subsequent search and discovery of a firearm.

Gang Unit Detectives arrested Alexander F. Fortes, 21, unknown address, of New Bedford Saturday, October 26 after he was found to be in possession of a firearm that was later discovered stolen.

Fortes was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and receiving stolen property less than $1,200, which was a stolen firearm in this case.

Fortes is due to be arraigned in District Court today. The arresting officer was Detective Lorenzo Gonzalez.
