New Bedford Police Arrest Man for Striking Motorcycle, Fleeing
NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police arrested a Connecticut man Sunday after his vehicle struck a motorcycle, and the man then fled the scene.
Police responded to a report of an accident between a motor cycle and motor vehicle at about 1:07 p.m. Sunday at Kempton and Park Streets. A motorcycle suffered minor front end damage. The driver and passenger reported that their motorcycle had been struck by a motor vehicle, which then fled the scene.
Police followed the vehicle, which violated several traffic violations as it fled. The vehicle was located in the area of Matthew Street and Cone Street in Dartmouth. The driver left the vehicle and fled on foot, running through several yards before being located in a garage behind 194 Cone Street.
Police arrested Al-Malik Fruitkwan Shabazz, 49, of 29 Hawthorne Avenue in Derby, Connecticut. Shabazz was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failing to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
There were no injuries in the incident.
