NEW BEDFORD — A Fall River man has been arrested on charges of trafficking fentanyl after New Bedford police said they seized drugs from him on Thursday.

Police said in a statement that Hector Perez-Rodriguez, 23, of Fall River was arrested on July 8 after detectives from the department seized 37 grams of fentanyl from a vehicle in the city.

The vehicle was located near Ruth and Abbott streets in New Bedford's South End.

Perez-Rodriguez was charged with trafficking in fentanyl in excess of 36 grams, which carries a five-year minimum jail sentence, according to police.
