New Bedford Police Arrest 16-Year-Old With Gun
NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police have arrested a teenager who was found with a gun in a traffic stop, after gang unit detectives warned officers to be on "high alert" during a social media dispute.
Police said that on Saturday, detectives received a tip about an "escalating conflict" playing out on social media, and alerted patrol officers to the situation.
At around 6 p.m. on March 12, officers saw a vehicle accelerating through the Temple Landing apartment complex, according to police.
Police said a person was hanging out of the window and yelling.
Officer Terrell Parent stopped the vehicle at Kempton and Chancery streets.
Five people were inside the car, four of them minors, police said.
According to police, upon further investigation the 16-year-old driver was found to have a loaded 9mm Taurus semi-automatic firearm in their possession.
They were arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Police also said that the only adult in the vehicle, 19-year-old Yuzeyka Negron, was arrested after they were found to have two active warrants for their arrest.
