New Bedford narcotics detectives made two significant drug busts on Wednesday.

At around 12:30 p.m., a search warrant was executed at 520 Coggeshall St., Apt. 3, and detectives seized approximately 50 grams of fentanyl and more than $5,000. Brian Konstantakos, 26, was arrested and charged with possession and trafficking in fentanyl, according to a media release from the New Bedford Police Department.

It is a subsequent offense for Konstantakos, who last year was convicted of dealing cocaine in New Bedford. Detective Lavar Gilbert investigated the case.

At around 2:09 p.m., detectives were targeting street-level sales in the south end when they witnessed what appeared to be illegal drug activity near the Family Dollar Store on West Rodney French Boulevard. They executed a search at 51 County St., Apt. 3, and confiscated 52 grams of fentanyl, 96 tabs of Percocet, digital scales, packaging materials and $628 in cash. Nicky R. Ortiz, 37, was arrested and charged with distribution, possession, trafficking, and conspiracy to violate the drug laws.

Ortiz currently has seven open cases in New Bedford District Court and one prior drug conviction, according to police.  Detective Nathan Pimental and Detective Kevin Barbosa investigated the case.
