April is sexual assault awareness and child abuse prevention month, and New Bedford parents are listening.

The Boys and Girls Club hosted an event Wednesday afternoon, with community agencies providing information on the warning signs of abuse, and how to address the issue.

Michelle Loranger, Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County says parents need to warn their children of abuse, just like any other danger a child may face.

Loranger says one in four girls, and one in six boys will be sexually abused by the time they're 18. She says keeping an open dialogue is one of the best prevention methods against child abuse.
