PACE, short for People Acting in Community Endeavors, is opening a new food bank in New Bedford this month and we have the details.

The Community Food Center will operate at 477 Park St., taking over the space once occupied by a VFW post.

The opening date is set for March 23. Hours will be Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors in need will have access to a full grocery store-style experience instead of getting prepacked bags.

PACE took to Facebook to make the announcement.

"Our goal is to provide our clients with the best possible experience, and we look forward to serving our community for years to come," the New Bedford-based organization said.

So many are still feeling the fallout from the pandemic, especially when it comes to putting food on the table. This new location could not have come at a better time. Rents are going up and I'm seeing many people having to make the tough decision to pay before going to the grocery store.

This bright and inviting new food bank will not only allow PACE to further help the community but also bring back some of the enjoyment of grocery shopping.

More information, including how to donate, is available on the PACE website.
