With New Bedford students on summer break, the City is offering up some fun and food.

The New Bedford Parks, Recreation and Beaches Department is continuing it's Play in the Park and Summer Food Service Program, beginning today. The program offers fun activities and nutritious meals to kids 18 and under at City parks, playgrounds, and housing sites free of charge.

Alexandrea Matthews of the Parks and Rec Department says the program visits different sites every weekday. "It's only at certain sites. This year, we have 24 different sites across the city that are open to the public, so anyone 18 and under can walk in and participate," says Matthews.

The summer programs are federally funded through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Community Development Block Grant Program.

The Play in the Park and Summer Food Service Program runs weekdays from 11am to 2pm through August 26.
