NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police have confirmed a shooting incident in the area of Reynolds and Adams Streets Friday morning.

According to police, two gunshot victims were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.

The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m.

WBSM News Director Mary Serreze was on the scene, and neighbors told her that there were multiple shootings, with some claiming a suspect shot at police and that police returned fire. This information has not been confirmed by New Bedford Police; however, police did say that no officers were shot in the incident.

Parts of LaFrance Street and Reynolds Street were taped off, as was the intersection of Linden and County Streets in front of Linden House of Pizza. A section of County Street was blocked to traffic. Police also blocked Exit 25 eastbound off Interstate 195.

An armed K9 team was seen searching the area, and a Massachusetts State Police helicopter was in the air. Massachusetts State Police and agents with the Bristol County Sheriff's Office were on the ground along with New Bedford Police.

Shawn Badgley, spokesman for Southcoast Health, confirmed to WBSM News that St. Luke's Hospital was under a brief lockdown this morning related to the shooting.

Police say the detective division is actively investigating. We will update this story with more information.
