New Bedford Mom Shocked by Jewelry Found in Almond Milk
I miss those days when finding a surprise in your food was a prize and not a problem.
When Jessica Gomes of New Bedford poured herself a glass of Califia Farms almond milk, she never expected to find a sparkling surprise inside: a starfish-shaped charm.
Yes, you read that correctly.
A Sparkling Surprise in the Carton
“I was absolutely shocked,” Gomes said. “I’m just thankful that I didn’t pour a glass for one of my kids to drink because they could have choked. I was not happy about this! Very scary. That could have gone bad very quickly.”
As a mother, the experience left Gomes rattled.
“Once you become a parent, you’ll worry about them for the rest of your life,” she said. “This really put that into perspective.”

Gomes Plans to Reach Out to Califia
The Los Angeles-based Califia Farms is known for its line of plant-based beverages, but finding a piece of jewelry in a sealed carton is far from ordinary. Gomes said she plans to contact the company to report the incident and hopes to get answers about how something like this could happen, but is not looking to press any charges.

In the meantime, she’s holding onto the charm – a small, rhinestone-encrusted starfish – in case it means something to someone else.
“Maybe someone out there is looking for their charm and wants it back,” Gomes said.
