New Bedford Men Arrested After Police Witness Alleged Drug Deal
NEW BEDFORD - Two New Bedford men are arrested after police witness a suspected drug deal.
Members of the New Bedford Police Narcotics Division were targeting street level narcotics sales in the south end of the city on Monday when they witnessed a possible drug deal between two men in the area of 8 Scott Street.
Police approached the men and found them both in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine. Both men were arrested.
Police have charged Luis Ruiz, 44, with possession of a Class B drug and conspiracy to violate drug laws. The alleged dealer, Michael Mello, 55, is charged with distribution of a Class B drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
The men were arrested just before 7 p.m.
