New Bedford Mayor Addresses Recreational Marijuana Shop Status
NEW BEDFORD — On this weekly radio segment on Wednesday, one of the topics covered by New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell was the status of recreational marijuana dispensaries in the city.
The mayor told WBSM listeners that some people have already submitted applications to open a dispensary. Mitchell said, "There are people who have expressed interest in setting up a dispensary here in New Bedford within those areas where they are properly zoned, and from what I understand they are working on those applications already."
The Mayor said there is no limit on the number of pot shops that can be opened in the city. " There's no limit, but there are limitations around where they can go. That might practically limit how many there are."
Mayor Mitchell also said his administration and the City Councill have worked very hard to make sure none of those dispensaries are open in any residential areas of the city.
