A New Bedford man will serve the next ten years in state prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a young girl over a five year period.

Thirty-seven year old Chad Mandeville pleaded guilty last month to seven charges including rape, rape of a child, indecent assault and possession of child pornography.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Mandeville sexually abused the girl beginning when she was 12 years old and continued until she was 17.  The victim eventually disclosed the abuse to a teacher, and Mandeville was arrested in June of 2013.

Mandeville was also sentenced to seven years supervised probation, and upon his release, have no contact with the victim and must register as a sex offender.
