New Bedford Man Receives Garbage Instead of Gaming Console During Transaction
NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police continue to remind area residents that if you need to meet in order to finalize an online transaction, the parking lot of Police Headquarters on Rockdale Avenue is the safest place to do so.
Police say a 42-year-old New Bedford man was robbed of a small amount of cash Wednesday as he tried to finalize an internet sale. The man had made arrangements to buy a video game console, and was told to meet the seller on Bullard Street. When he met the man, the seller handed over a box that was supposed to contain the console, with the buyer handing over cash. The so-called seller took the cash and ran away. The box contained only trash. Police are investigating.
Police say the parking lot at headquarters is an Internet Safe Transaction Zone that is constantly monitored by security cameras. The public is welcome to utilize the space to complete transactions.
