NEW BEDFORD — Police have arrested a city resident after he allegedly fled the scene of a motor vehicle crash.

New Bedford Police received a report of a crash and located the driver a short time later as he was still operating his vehicle in the area of 145 Nye Street at about 3:37 a.m. on Sunday.

During the investigation, police determined that the driver, Florencio Riz, 39, of 197 Nash Road, New Bedford, was under the influence of alcohol. Riz was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor and leaving the scene of property damage.

A police spokesperson did not release where the crash had taken place.

There were no serious injuries reported as a result of the crash.
