FAIRHAVEN — A New Bedford man faces charges after he was caught on camera stealing from a home in Fairhaven.

Fairhaven Police received a call at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday from a Sycamore Street resident who reported someone was inside his home while he was not there. The resident told the dispatcher he had a home security system installed in his home, and he could see through his phone that someone was walking around inside the house.

As police responded, they saw a man matching the suspect's description walking towards New Bedford on Howland Road while carrying a pillow case over his shoulder. Officers detained the man and searched the bag, revealing contents that were seen stolen from the home in the surveillance video.

The suspect, John Dangora, 35, of 20 George Street, New Bedford, was arrested and charged with vandalism, larceny from a building, and breaking and entering in the daytime to commit a felony. Police say the vandalism charge was brought against Dangora after he allegedly damaged the air conditioner as he forced his way into the home through a window.

Dangora has been arraigned in New Bedford District Court.
