New Bedford Man Caught Digging In Local Cemetery
An odd disturbance in a city cemetery over the weekend.
New Bedford police officers were called to the Rural Cemetery on Dartmouth Street around 4pm Saturday, and found a man digging behind a grave.
Police recognized the 24-year-old man from previous encounters, and say he was up to his chest in a hole in the ground that he had dug using a small garden tool and a plastic bottle. The man said he had been digging since 4am, and had permission from the federal government to dig on the property which he claimed he owned.
Officers were able to pull the man out of the hole. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation.
