NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven police have confirmed that a New Bedford man was killed in a five-car crash that injured seven other people in an early Sunday morning incident that may be connected to drag racing.

New Haven Police Public Information Officer Scott Shumway said 30-year-old Carlos Gonzalez of New Bedford died in the crash, which took place at around 2:18 a.m. Sunday on Sargent Drive in New Haven, Connecticut.

Gonzalez, who was driving one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Shumway.

Seven other people were taken to the hospital and are currently all in stable condition.

Shumway said that the department's accident reconstruction team is investigating to determine if the incident was drag racing related.

No further details have been released.
